At a glance
- Last updated: September 27, 2026
- Strictly necessary cookies keep you signed in and protect forms from forgery. They are always on, because the site cannot work without them.
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics and PostHog) are optional. In the EU/EEA, the UK and Switzerland they stay off unless you choose Accept.
- Everywhere, we honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends either, analytics stay off.
- The website does not currently set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If that changes, this page will list them, and we will ask first where the law requires it.
- You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
Strictly necessary
These are set by Alien Tavern itself, on our own domain, and are never used to track you across other sites.
- alien_tavern_session β keeps you signed in and remembers what you are doing between pages. Expires after 120 minutes without activity.
- XSRF-TOKEN β protects forms against cross-site request forgery. Expires with the session.
- cookie_consent β remembers whether you accepted or refused optional cookies, so we do not ask on every page. Lasts six months, after which we ask again.
- two_factor_remember β only if you turn on two-factor sign-in and choose to trust a device; skips the code on that device for 30 days.
- at_apple_app_flow β only while you sign in with Apple from our Android app; tells the site to hand the sign-in back to the app. Lasts 15 minutes.
We also keep a few preferences in your browser’s own storage (not cookies) when you choose them, such as your theme, your lobby character, and whether you opted out of analytics. They never leave your device.
Analytics (optional)
These help us understand which parts of the site are used, so we can improve them. They are counted in aggregate; we do not sell this data.
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) β cookies _ga and _ga_<id> distinguish visits and sessions. Google documents a lifetime of up to 2 years. Advertising features are switched off.
- PostHog (PostHog, Inc., US hosting) β a cookie and browser storage named ph_<project>_posthog record product events such as signing up or posting. PostHog documents a lifetime of up to 1 year. Session recording and surveys are switched off.
If you refuse, neither service is loaded at all. If you accept and later refuse, we stop both at once and delete their cookies.
Where we ask first
The law in the EU/EEA, the UK and Switzerland requires your permission before optional cookies are set, so there we show a banner and set nothing optional until you answer. Elsewhere, optional analytics run unless you refuse, and you can refuse at any time.
To tell where you are, we look up the country your IP address belongs to, on our own server, when the page loads. We do not store the result. If we cannot tell, your browser’s time zone decides, and if even that is unavailable, we ask.
Changing your choice
- Cookie settings, at the bottom of every page, lets you accept or refuse optional cookies at any time.
- If you are signed in, Settings β Usage Analytics does the same for your account.
- Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser keeps analytics off everywhere.
- Deleting this site’s cookies in your browser clears your choice; where we are required to ask, we will ask again.
Other services that may see your visit
A few features load content from other companies. These do not set cookies on alientavern.com, but, as with any request, the provider can see your IP address:
- Google Fonts β the site’s typefaces are loaded from Google’s servers.
- Sentry β if a page crashes, an error report is sent so we can fix it. It sets no cookies.
- YouTube β the music player in the 3D lobby plays YouTube videos, and YouTube may set its own cookies when the player loads. See Google’s privacy policy.
For everything else about how we handle your information, see our Privacy Policy.
